Your Hosts
John and Joyce Robins welcome you to Tudor Park. They enjoy sharing their home and garden with guests,
and their holidays and working trips in New Zealand and around the world mean they appreciate the needs of travelers.
Gardening and farming play major parts in John and Joyce’s lives.
Since moving to Tudor Park they have greatly extended and developed the garden. Joyce is an avid
gardener/plantswoman and John has enjoyed building the structures which define the garden, including two nine-pillar pergolas, a belvedere, arbours and two oversized farm gates.
Having been a Past President of Heritage Roses New Zealand, Joyce has a special interest in Old Roses.
This is reflected in the garden but she enjoys using all plants to create year-round interest.
The couple also grows flowers for commercial supply, with over 1000 peony plants delivering a stunning
annual harvest.
John has been actively involved in farming all his life, and is an Executive Member of the Royal
Agriculture Society of New Zealand. John and Joyce have long worked together to show Simmental Stud Cattle and although their own Simmental herd has been dispersed John continues to judge
beef cattle both within New Zealand and overseas.
John’s lifelong involvement with horses started with a pony then show jumpers. He was a Pony Club
Instructor for twenty years, has had horses in one day eventing and has hunted, being Deputy Master of Birchwood Hunt for eight years.
John’s ten-win race mare Milly Bijou has had a colt and a filly sold to Australia so John and Joyce are
looking forward to Milly's offspring winning over there.
Joyce’s interest and involvement with the Anderson Park Art Gallery continues and she sits on the Gallery’s Council.
